Embedding Medial Videos in Blackboard

Summary

As the Medial building block integration with Blackboard is set to be discontinued on December 31, 2024, all existing Medial video links will break. To ensure that video content remains accessible, faculty can manually embed Medial videos into their Blackboard courses. This process involves logging into both Blackboard and Medial, copying the embed code from the Medial video, and pasting it into the Blackboard content editor. Faculty are encouraged to complete this process for all Medial videos

How to Embed Medial Videos in Blackboard: Step-by-Step Instructions

With the upcoming December 31, 2024, sunset of the Medial building block integration in Blackboard, all existing Medial video links will be broken. To avoid disruption, embedding Medial videos manually is a simple and effective solution that will ensure your video content remains accessible, even beyond any LMS system changes.

Please read before copying courses for the upcoming term. To avoid fixing Medial videos in multiple sections, re-embed the videos in your source course before copying.

Follow these steps to embed Medial videos in Blackboard:

  1. Open a Blackboard tab and a Medial tab: Launch a web browser (preferably Chrome or Firefox) and log in to Blackboard in one browser window and then open a new tab by clicking on the plus sign next to the tab in the same browser to log in to Medial. Navigate back to your Blackboard course content and open your course.

found at the top right of the video and select Enable Public Access. Select Embed and then choose the video size 640x385 for the video. Please note: Fixed aspect ratios, such as the recommended 640x385, may not display optimally on smaller screens like mobile devices but will still rotate to landscape mode to accommodate full screen viewing on these devices. Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
