Description: What is phishing?
Phishing is a common type of cyber attack that targets individuals through email, text messages, phone calls, and other forms of communication. A phishing attack aims to trick the recipient into falling for the attacker’s desired action, such as revealing financial information, system login credentials, or other sensitive information. These actions often involve clicking links to fake websites, downloading and installing malicious files, and divulging private information, like bank account numbers or credit card information.
Some phishing emails will ask you to forward your username and password, while others will direct you to a website that looks "similar" to CCRI websites to trick you into entering your username and password. The CCRI Help Desk will never ask for confidential information in an email. This includes passwords, DOB or even personal information like your name or address. Furthermore, you should avoid clicking on links in emails that direct you to secure areas as they may potentially be spoofed or fake web pages.
