Manual FortiClient Installation, Setup, and Connection Guide (Windows)

Description: This guide provides step-by-step instructions for manually installing and setting up a FortiClient VPN connection, allowing secure access to CCRI's internal network.

NOTE: To install using this method, you require administrator level access to the device.

Manual FortiClient Install Steps:

  1. Download the Installer:
    • Visit the Fortinet website: Fortinet Product Downloads.

    • Download the "FortiClient VPN" for your operating system. For this example, we will use Windows 10.

  2. Installation Process:
    • Run the downloaded installer, agree to the license agreement and click "Next".

    • If possible, leave the install path as the default and click "Next". 

    • Click "Install".

    • Click "Finish"

Manual FortiClient Setup/Configuration Steps:

  1. Run FortiClient:
    • Launch FortiClient from the desktop icon. It will have you acknowledge and accept some terms and conditions. Check off the box and select "I accept."

  2. Configure VPN Settings:
    • Click on “Configure VPN”.

    • Ensure that your fields match the settings to the below image and click "Save": 

Connecting and Disconnecting from FortiClient (After Installation): 

  1. SAML Login:
    • "CCRI VPN" should now be listed in the drop-down section. Click "SAML Login" and use your CCRI credentials to sign in. If you are setup in DUO, then you will need to authenticate with DUO as well.
