What is Software Center?

Description: Software Center is where you can find additional software, update applications, or upgrade to a newer operating system without requiring IT assistance. The CCRI IT department maintains this software catalog with applications relevant to CCRI official business. Some of the the applications are optional while others are required to provide a consistent and secured workstation. In some cases, you may be able to install required applications, however, some application installation have deadlines and if the deadline is reached prior to you installing the application, application will automatically be installed during CCRI's overnight computer maintenance windows. An example of what software center looks like is shown below.

New Software: When the CCRI IT Department releases new software or updates to existing software, you will see a banner indicating that it is new from the last time you opened Software Center. Not all "New" software must be installed. Some may be optional depending on what your job duties are.

Installation Status: You can quickly observe the installation status of both available and required Applications by selecting the Installation status view from the left side menu of Software Center. In the example below you can see that Firefox ESR - 78.11.0 has a status of "Waiting for the next available maintenance schedule". While the rest of the applications have a status of "Installed". When software has a status of "Waiting for the next available maintenance schedule" you can install it sooner by clicking the application and choosing to install now or schedule it later.
