Booking Appointments with the Tutoring & Writing Center

This article walks students through booking an appointment with the Tutoring & Writing Center at the Community College of Rhode Island, adding the appointment to their Microsoft Calendar, and rescheduling or canceling when needed.

Section 1: Booking an Appointment

  1. Head to the Tutoring & Writing Center Appointment page. You will see the page below.

  2. Click the category you would like to sign up for at the top.

  3. If you picked Tutoring, select the course related to your appointment.
  4. Select the location of your appointment.
    • See the end of this article for notes about Online appointments.
  5. You will see a list of staff appear. Click the URL to the right of a staff member to book an appointment with them. A new page will open.
  6. You may ignore the SELECT STAFF field on the new page.
  7. Select a time and date that you are available.
    • Be wary of any scheduling conflicts such as classes, other appointments, work, or events.
  8. Enter your first and last name, your email, and the course you need help with in the special requests box.
  9. Click Book.

Note: Online appointments are conducted remotely. Confirmation emails for online appointments will include join information instead of a physical room location.


Section 2: Adding Appointments to Microsoft Calendar

  1. Head to your CCRI Outlook — this is where you will see your emails. Look for an email titled Confirmed: (Staff Name).
  2. Inside is the appointment information for the meeting you just scheduled. It is recommended to add the appointment to your Microsoft Calendar. The email comes with a handy attachment labeled booking.ics.

  3. Next to the attachment, click the down-facing arrow and select Add to Calendar.

  4. To verify the event has been added, head to the date you scheduled the appointment for in your Microsoft Calendar.

  5. If you click the calendar event, you will see details about the event.

Section 3: Rescheduling or Canceling Your Appointment

Sometimes a conflict will appear that interferes with your scheduled appointment. It is good practice to either reschedule or cancel the appointment so others can take that time slot.

  1. To reschedule or cancel, head to your CCRI Outlook.
  2. Open the confirmation email you received earlier and click Reschedule in the bottom right.

  3. On the page that opens, click either Reschedule or Cancel booking.
    • If you click Reschedule, return to Section 1, Step 6.
    • If you click Cancel booking, confirm the popup and then click OK.

  4. You will receive a confirmation email in either case.
  5. If you do not want to make another appointment, you can exit the tab.
  6. To make another appointment, return to Section 1.
