With the upcoming December 31, 2024, sunset of the Medial building block integration in Blackboard, all existing Medial video links will be broken. To avoid disruption, embedding Medial videos manually is a simple and effective solution that will ensure your videro content remains accessible, even beyond any LMS system changes.
Follow these steps to embed Medial videos in Blackboard:
Open a Blackboard tab and a Medial tab: Launch a web browser (preferably Chrome or Firefox) and log in to Blackboard in one browser window and then open a new tab by clicking on the plus sign next to the tab in the same browser to log in to Medial. Navigate back to your Blackboard course content and open your course.
Locate the Video in the Blackboard Course Content: Navigate to the course content item where the existing Medial video link is located. Highlight and Copy the video title (CTL+C or CMD+C) also take note of thumbnail image for future reference.
Locate the Corresponding Video in Medial: Switch over to the Medial tab and paste the copied title in the Medial search to find the corresponding video in your Medial library. Click on the video thumbnail to open it up.
Copy the Embed Code: Highlight and copy it by either right-clicking and selecting Copy or using Ctrl+C (Windows) or Cmd+C (Mac).
Return to your Blackboard tab and navigate to the top menu and select Build Content_Item
Paste Embed Code: Enter a title and then click on the Source Code < > symbol from the Rich Text Editor. Once a new source window launches, paste the embed code that you had previously copied either by right clicking_Pasting or using Ctrl+V (Windows) or Cmd+V (Mac). Then select Save.
Submit: After returning to the content item, enter any display and viewing options if necessary and click on Submit.
Delete old Video: Once the item is placed where you want it. Go back to the old Medial item and click on the chevron to delete old Medial item.
Repeat Steps as Needed: Follow this process for each Medial video in your course to ensure they continue to work after the Medial building block integration is shut down after December 31st, 2024.
