Register passkeys in Microsoft Authenticator on iOS

Come February 1, 2027, all currently registered MFA users who opted to use SMS/Call authentication will need to enroll themselves in Passkey verification. To enroll yourself in Passkey verification, follow the steps below.

You must be on iOS version 17 or later to use Passkey verification.

1. Download Authenticator from the Apple App Store. Once installed, go through the on-screen instructions.

2. Add your account in Authenticator on your iOS device:

- If you have installed Authenticator for the first time, tap Add work or school account on the page that says Secure Your Digital Life:

5. Microsoft Authenticator requires permission to be used as a passkey provider. When prompted with the screen that says Allow Authenticator to autofill your passwords and passkeys, tap Settings.

- If on iOS 18, head to Settings -> General -> Autofill & Passwords. On iOS 17, go to Settings -> Passwords -> Password Options. Make sure AutoFill Passwords and Passkeys is enabled, then ensure Authenticator is enabled under that.
