2) Choose what you want to record

In the recorder screen you can select:

  • Video (webcam only)

  • Screen (screen only)

  • Both (screen + webcam)

When recording your screen, you’ll choose one of:

  • 🗂️ Tab

  • 🪟 Window

  • 🖥️ Entire Screen

✅ Helpful audio tip:

  • If recording a browser tab, look for the option to share tab audio.

  • If recording Entire Screen, look for the option to share system audio.

3) Allow permissions (first time only)

Your browser may prompt you to allow access to:

  • 🎙️ Microphone

  • 📷 Camera

Click Allow so Medial can record.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

4) Update the title (recommended)

Medial provides a default title/description that you can edit before recording.

(Optional) Adjust recording quality if needed (defaults are usually fine).

5) Record, pause/resume, and finish

  • Click Record to begin.

  • Use Pause/Resume if needed.

  • When done, click Finish to upload automatically to Medial.

✅ If your internet connection drops:

  • Medial may allow you to continue and then download a .webm to upload later.

📝 Captions (Auto-Captioning + Editing)

✅ New Medial Recordings

After processing/encoding, captions may generate automatically depending on CCRI’s captioning settings. You will get a notification email when the captioning is complete. The processing time is based on the length of the video (the longer the video the longer the processing time).

✏️ Review and edit captions

Plan to review captions for accuracy (names, acronyms, terminology). Captions can be edited in the video’s edit area (your local UI labels may vary).

✅ Old Medial Recordings

Existing videos will not be auto-captioned automatically as part of the 9.1 upgrade but you can trigger the auto-captioning for each one you are actively using for course content by using the "Request Captioning" work flow.

📄 See KB:  Medial Upgrade article to learn how to retro-auto-caption existing Medial videos in your library.

📌 Share / Embed in Blackboard

At this time, faculty may still embed Medial videos manually in Blackboard.

📄 See KB: Embed Medial in Blackboard (note: this will be updated for Ultra UI in the future).
