Medial 8.5 Upgrade- Web Recorder Options

Key Improvements and Fixes:

1. MEDIALecture Web

  • Overview: Introduction of the new MEDIALecture Web Tool.
  • Functionality:
    • Users can capture their screen, video or a combination of both.
    • No need for client installation.
    • Available within both MEDIAL and Blackboard platforms.

2. Additional Features & Functionality

  • MEDIALibrary and MEDIALearning Enhancements:
    • Video Processing: Refinements for improved video handling.
    • Reporting: Enhanced reporting capabilities.
    • Accessibility: Improved accessibility features.
    • Other Updates: Various other features and functional improvements.

How to Use the Web Recorder from the Medial portal:

  1. Log into Medial directly at https://medial.ccri.edu/
  2. Select "Record" by clicking the round record button from the top navigation.
  3. A pop up window will allow you to select one of two recorder versions, either web or installed (if choosing "installed" refer to legacy tutorial page: https://www.ccri.edu/onlinefaculty/tech_corner/medial.html)

  5. You will be prompted to allow Medial to use your camera and microphone the first time. Click on  "AllowUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  6. You may need to modify System Settings on your device to allow accessUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  7. Choose the tab/screen you want to record Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  8. The interface preview will appear and you can choose more recording options (i.e. screen, web-cam video, or both). Then update the title and other details before clicking on RecordUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  9. Record your screen cast and note that when you are ready to pause or stop, click on the recorded browser tab identified by the red recording iconUploaded Image (Thumbnail)

  11. You will be prompted by a 'finished' window and then directed back to your Medial content listing library where you can open the file to preview it, make edits, and share it. Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

How to Use the Web Recorder from the Blackboard interface:

  1. Log into you Blackboard https://blackboard.ccri.edu/ and enter your course. In the content area, go to Build Content and select Medial. Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  2. The text editor will open. Fill in the name and other details and select the circled plus sign on the rich text editor menu to add content.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  3. Select Medial from the list. Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

  5. A prompt will inform you of your recorder choice. Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  6. The Medial recorder will load on the bottom left hand of the screen. Choose recording setting options.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  7. Select Screen Capture option and click Record.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  8. After the countdown from 5 the recording will startUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  9. Find the capture tool in the bottom right corner of the screen. Here you can use the draw feature, pause, and cancel buttons. When you are finished, click on Done

  10. Preview the recording and trim if necessary. Click check mark or delete icons in the corner when done. Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  11. Enter recording details and click on upload (recommended) to upload the file to the Medial web platform (alternatively select 'save' to save the file locally). Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  12. Once upload completes, you will get a notification of the Upload Success. Click on the X to exit. Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  13. Next, choose select to select video recording. Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  14. Keep "Include Download Link" checked and click NextUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  15. Once finished,the blackboard item will be populated with Medial content
