πŸ“’ Blackboard Integration Update: Cengage LTI 1.3 Migration for Summer/Fall 2025

Overview

Blackboard is officially retiring all legacy Building Block (B2) integrations by June 2025. In response, CCRI is migrating to Cengage's new LTI 1.3 Advantage integration. This updated tool is now available in Blackboard and will be the only supported method for linking Cengage content beginning with Summer 2025 courses.

The migration to Cengage LTI 1.3 will take place on Friday, May 23 at 7:00 AM. While this update should be seamless, faculty are advised not to launch Cengage links between 7:00 and 8:00 AM during the migration window.

  • Blackboard is decommissioning the Cengage Building Block tool.

  • Cengage LTI 1.3 is now required for all new course links.

  • The new tool is available from the Build Content > Cengage Content (LTI 1.3) menu.

βœ… What Faculty Need to Do

  • All new Cengage links for Summer and Fall 2025 must be created using the LTI 1.3 tool.

  • Existing links from Spring 2025 courses should continue to function post-migration.

  • Faculty are encouraged to double-check links to ensure they launch correctly after the transition.

πŸ““ Faculty Instructions: Deploying NEW Cengage Content

  1. Log in to your Blackboard course shell.

  2. Go to your Content area and click Build Content > Cengage Content LTI 1.3.

  3. Select the appropriate textbook or content.

  4. Follow the on-screen prompts to link your course and add assignments.

🚨 Migration Timeline

  • May 23, 2025 (7:00 AM): Migration begins and is expected to end after one hour.

  • Faculty and students should avoid using Cengage during this migration time.

  • Past Cengage links are expected migrate over smoothly without further action.

  • Post-migration: All new content must be added using Cengage LTI 1.3 (from Build Content).
